Andrzej Klimowski is an amazing designer whose work and biography I'm only passingly familiar with. I discovered him trhough movie poster exhibits, but I've also come across some of the jacket desings he's done for Faber&Faber and Oberon (Milan Kundera, PG Wodehouse, Harold Pinter, and more). Truly striking covers that beg an extended look before being reshelved (hey, I can't afford new books either). Otherwise, I'm not sure he's well represented stateside. Apparently, his animated films, newspaper cartoons, illustrations, art books and an extensive body of graphic design work from London to Warsaw, is quite well regarded. This movie poster doesn't lead one to doubt that.

All of his movie posters bring a wonderful compliment to the films they promote. His Godfather II and Nashville posters, perhaps his best, will give you actual chills. I went with Mystery Train because not only am I feelin' a little Elvis today, but I think Klimowski does a singular job of capturing the same elements (outsiders, a detatched irony, haunting music, and locomotion) that define the film. Plus, the figure is looking at the world through Sun colored glasses... how cool is that.
